This month Christie and I will actually be doing TWO Shoot The Jukebox shows. The first is our regular monthly night on WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 16, 2011 at The Commodore in Williamsburg, Brooklyn from 9pm - 1am.
The second is a special show called Texas State Fair at The Bellhouse in Brooklyn on Sunday February 20th, from 3pm to 7pm. In addition to great old country music, there is a queso contest, belt buckle contest, specially priced Texas beers, ping pong and a lot more. What better way to spend your Sunday afternoon than sipping on Lone Star, snacking on rotel and two-stepping. I don’t know, but I sure hope there’s some Shiner!
In honor of the Texas State Fair at The Bellhouse, our mixtape this month is part 1 of at least 3 Texas-themed mixes.

This month’s mixtape is something special. Instead of a selection of different old country songs, every single track is written by Townes Van Zandt but performed by someone else. So if you’re an old Townes fan, these should be some interesting covers, and if you’ve never heard of him, this should be a good introduction.
Listen by pressing PLAY / Download by pressing the little downward ARROW on the right side below.

NPR’s Fresh Air Celebrates Country Music Week

Sadly, my google image search for Terry Gross with a cowboy hat produced no results. But, Fresh Air—arguably the best radio interview program of all time—is playing some of their favorite interviews with country musicians all week. So far they’ve featured Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, George Jones, Patsy Cline and Willie Nelson. Listen in to the Willie Nelson interview HERE, and visit the Fresh Air site to check out more all week!
